My Favourite Movies Of 2022

My Favourite Movies Of 2022

2022 was pretty active on the cinema scene. Blockbusters, comedy and fiction genres floored the entertainment scene. From Netflix to Hollywood, everyone put their best foot forward. Among the movies, a few captured the attention of many movie lovers around the world. Here are some of them.

Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio

There was a Pinocchio that came out earlier in the year, a Disney remake by Robert Zemecki.

However, the Pinocchio from Mark Gustafson and Guillermo Del Toro was different. This stop-motion puppet show was a big hit because it had a great storyline, great directing, and was a lot of fun. The major selling point was a storyline about an abusive father and fascism that took players back to 1930s Italy. The story transports the main character to the world of the dead as he attempts to rejoin his father and conveys the message of spending time with loved ones.

Top Gun: Maverick

This film tells the story of Pete Maverick Mitchell (Tom Cruise), a navy top gun pilot who, after 30 years of service, finds himself in training for a special mission with other top guns in the navy. The future is uncertain for him and the ghosts of his past come knocking. He has nothing left but to face his fears and get ready for a mission that demands his ultimate sacrifice if he is chosen to fly. The movie was so successful that it made a profit of over $662 million worldwide.

The Banshees of Inisherin

The movie takes viewers to a remote island in Ireland where two lifelong friends, Colm (Brendan Gleeson) and Padraic (Colin Farrel), get into an impasse when Colm decides to end their friendship. Two of their friends, a worried Padraic and his sister Siobhan, later joined by another lad named Dominic, try to repair the friendship. Unfortunately, the efforts by these three to bring the two friends together only strengthen Colm’s resolve to cut ties with his former friend. However, things escalated pretty fast, which led to alarming consequences for both friends. This movie received a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Batman

The Batman is an American hero story that is based on the DC Comics superhero Batman. It was an attempt by DC Films to reboot the franchise. The film centres around Batman, who has been fighting crime in the mythical city of Gotham City for two years and uncovered massive corruption while following a serial killer called Riddler. The Riddler had recently killed Commissioner Pete Savage.

Batman follows the trail of corruption and ends up netting many leading figures, including some of his friends. This movie grossed over $770.8 million around the world, with the USA leading with $369.3 million.

Everything Everywhere All at Once

Everything Everywhere All at Once is a science fiction movie where a Chinese-American immigrant (Michelle Yeoh), while being audited for her taxes, discovers that she has newfound powers that enable her to connect to a parallel multiverse. She must use her powers to prevent a powerful being from destroying this universe and other multiverses where versions of her exist.

The film received worldwide acclaim for its visual effects, costumes, direction, and humour. Such themes as general trauma, existentialism and nihilism were also evident in the storyline. This movie was a commercial success worldwide, as it grossed over $100 million worldwide.

The Northman

The Northman is a historical thriller film that centres on a Viking prince called Amleth, who starts a quest to avenge the death of his father, who was killed by his uncle to take over the leadership of the country. After a conquest overseas, he joins a band of Vikings to kill the king, only to discover that the king has lost the seat to a king from Norway. This does not stop him from setting out and planning the journey to kill the uncle with the help of wizards. Its writers use Norse mythology to a great extent to determine the moves of the main characters and their beliefs.

There were several other titles worth mentioning, such as Nope, Tar, and Decision to Leave, among others. Several other great titles are to be released in 2023. Grab a few great ones and enjoy the storyline in your free time.
